Contribution to WavePool Magazine
My friends at WavePool Mag wrote an article about the possibilities of bringing surfing to inland areas with wave pool technology and the potential benefit to the wellbeing of the folks who live there and had me share my thoughts.
Contribution to article for Stab Magazine.
Being a life long surfer, it’s always cool to be able to contribute to surf media article that old surf friends ask to me write for or, in this case, be very briefly quoted in. This article may hide behind a pay wall so here’s what I had to say: “I do think that adversity can contribute to competitive and championship tendencies,” said licensed therapist Brad Smallwood. “Very oftentimes something like surfing is an escape from a chaotic environment and I’ve noticed that many surfers I’ve grown up with come from homes they want to be away from. This is something I’ve observed both growing up surfing and in communities that produce great surfers.”
I wrote an article about surfing in a wave pool in the inland Heart of Texas.
Every now and then I get contacted to write for a surf publication and this was a fun piece on got to write about a trip to…Texas…to surf in a man made wave pool. It was a blast- still not as cool as surfing in the ocean.

Speaking about mental health in SF Bay Area on KTVU on October 7th, 2015
I had the really cool opportunity today to be interviewed by KTVU today to discuss mental health issues and treatment options in the Bay Area. We discussed the importance of being proactive rather than reactive in seeking mental health support for both children and adults. It was really nice to see the level of attention that KTVU was paying to Mental Health Awareness Week (October 5-10).
